[Video] MAGNOLIUS – King For Hire

MAGNOLIUS has released a new animated video for “King For Hire,” the final release from their sophomore album, Mary Musth. The duo will be going on their second US tour next month in promotion of their upcoming album, The Chosen Ones.

Nearly two years in the making, director/animator Justin T. Lee creates an intriguing monochromatic world that seamlessly fuses a stop-motion animated protagonist with classically animated hand-drawn characters. The video follows a young woman as she descends from the doldrums of her life as a night security guard into a mysterious land of teddy bears…yes teddy bears. MAGNOLIUS themselves appear throughout the video in unexpected forms, suggesting the land of the teddy bears may not be as pleasant as it seems.

Toronto based director/animator Justin T. Lee was inspired by MAG’s diverse influences and multifaceted approach to their songs: “MAGNOLIUS is a conscious fusion of music genres, which inspired the fusion of different styles and animation techniques to tell our story”
