Hand’Solo Records releases third Grandpa Funnybook’s Mixtape

Funnybook3

Officially titled Grandpa Funnybook’s Mix-Tapingly Arranged Rapping Song Album 3!, this is the latest release from Hand’Solo Records.

Three years ago Hand’Solo Records partnered with Wordburglar to release a mixtape celebrating our attendance at Toronto’s Fan Expo convention, and the tradition continues as Grandpa Funnybook’s Mix-Tapingly Arranged Rapping Song Album returns for a third volume. In keeping with the themes of Fan Expo, the subject matter of GF3 is heavily weighted towards sci-fi, fantasy and horror. Wordburglar presents a couple of songs from his just released concept album Welcome to Cobra Island, More Or Les debuts the title track to his upcoming Dr Who mixtape, and Adam WarRock offers up an exclusive track about Loki (the one from the Marvel Universe), amongst many other nerdy rap tracks also featuring the likes of Random (aka Mega Ran), Ghettosocks, Beefy, Jesse Dangerously, Kabuto the Python, Fresh Kils, Dual Core and more. Hosted by comic book legend Grandpa Funnybook, creator of all your favourite Special Characters, and mixed by Peter Project, winner of Toronto’s first Sound Battle Royale in 2010, GF3 also features vibrant cover art by comic book artist Dave Howlett (Scenester, Slam-A-Rama). Nerds, rejoice!

[Audio] Quills – Dreamcatcher (prod. Fresh Kils)

DC Cover Crop Test 9

“Dreamcatcher” is the title track off of Montreal native Quills’ debut EP. The song was produced by Toronto’s Fresh Kils.

Dreamcatcher (produced by highly acclaimed Toronto native Fresh Kils) is an autobiographical portrait of the man behind the music. An introspective ode to a lifelong journey; it is fierce and thought provoking, haunting and beautiful. Avoiding the trend of overproduction, it is stripped of excess; its charm lying in its honesty, its beauty in its implicit simplicity.

BOOTLEGBARTENDERSCOVER

Fresh off the release of their Open Affairs EP and tour, Mad Dukez and Fresh Kils have released the lead single from their Gettin’ Gatsby LP, which is due July 16.

While their Open Affairs EP is hitting #3 on Earshot Charts in Canada, the duo is sliding you one helluva shot with the new album’s lead single, “Bootleg Bartenders.” No chaser required for this pure imaginative lyric and beat combo. “Bootleg Bartenders” is already on the fast track to success receiving air-time across the continent as the #1 Added Single on RecordBreakers just last week.

This is a premium taste of what to expect from the full album. Dukez and Kils are channeling Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby with a modern Buffalo spin on themes of overindulgence, decadence, and infidelity. Until then, heed the surgeon general’s warning and start “sippin’ while we rock out.”

[Video] Fortunato – I’m That One

Produced by Fresh Kils, “I’m That One” is the first video from Fortunato’s upcoming Unseen Armada. Directed by Good Guy Pictures.

The song is about being self reliant and the power of the individual versus the mob mentality. Fortunato talks about the people in his life who pretended to be supportive but were secretly plotting against him. He explains how as an individual he has the strength to forge his own destiny and will not be held back by those who prey on his downfall. It’s a dark brooding track but yet it also has a feeling of triumph that is bolstered by a strong message of self determination.

Mad Dukez & Fresh Kils release The Open Affairs EP

maddukezfreshkils-openaffairs-cover

A little late in getting this one posted, but Mad Dukez and Fresh Kils have released their collaborative The Open Affairs EP.

Paint the town with a groundbreaking new sound from Mad Dukez & Fresh Kils, inspired by F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel, The Great Gatsby – and the decadence and carousal of the Roaring 20’s,brought up to date for the 2020’s. The Open Affairs EP is the international dynamic duo’s six track precursor to this summer’s LP, Gettin’ Gatsby, and centers around an insatiable appetite for social observation, interaction and acceptance… and at times going overboard. Tantalizingly tight rhymes, soulfully swinging choruses, and hard-hitting drums all come together in voluptuous audio indulgence.
